In the Pink :) Breast Cancer Awareness (part 2)

Sandy and her smile!

More high praise for the valiant women who fight the battle with Breast Cancer and it’s treatment!

Don and I have visited Sandy the past two days at Sanford Health, Bemidji, while she faces yet another obstacle in her road back to wellness.  Her blood platelets are down due to the chemo and she has developed strep throat.

Breast cancer treatment, namely the chemo, has numerous side effects.  Chemotherapy destroys cancer cells because the medicines target rapidly dividing cells. But normal cells in your blood, mouth, intestinal tract, nose, nails, vagina, and hair also divide rapidly.  So chemotherapy affects them, too.  Sandy has lost her hair, but it’s only one of many side effects she’s dealing with.

The side effects from chemotherapy depend on the regimen you’re on, the amount of medicine you’re getting, the length of treatment, and your general health.  Sandy’s MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and diabetes are definitely risk factors, and she’s dealing with this like a trooper!  She’s receiving blood platelets and antibiotics to combat these latest developments and still smiles.   She got all “done up” for her photo and more hats are on the way… including one of my special “YaYa hats!”

So dear friends… pray.  Pray for Sandy and Joann and all the women who have survived and those who fight this battle.  They are angels in a war they did not create and need all the love and prayer we can offer.

Wear your pink ribbon proudly in support of these valiant women.  Support the American Cancer Society and the Relay for Lifehttp://www.relayforlife.org/relay/

Above all pray… thank you.

From Marilyn with love…
